Identify performance regressions in changed code 2. Check hot paths for unnecessary allocations, copies, or AMDSMI syscalls 3. Flag O(n²) or worse patterns where linear would work (e.g., nested GPU group × field iterations) 4. Verify resource cleanup (gRPC channels, AMDSMI handles, file descriptors, GPU resources) 5. Check for unnecessary repeated AMDSMI queries that could be cached or batched 6. Review lock usage in the metrics updater and cache manager — overly broad locks hurt polling throughput 7. Check for unnecessary gRPC round-trips in the standalone handler (e.g., per-field RPCs instead of batched) 8. Review polling frequency configuration — verify defaults are sane and not CPU-wasteful 9. If CI evidence is provided, check for timing regressions ## RDC-specific Performance Concerns - **Polling thread (AUTO mode):** Background thread calls AMDSMI at `update_freq_us` intervals. Changes to polling logic can affect CPU usage at scale (many GPUs × many fields). - **Cache miss penalty:** `rdc_field_get_latest_value` is O(1) from cache, but a cache miss triggers a live AMDSMI call. Verify cache invalidation logic doesn't cause unnecessary misses. - **gRPC serialization:** Every `rdc_field_value` struct is serialized/deserialized in standalone mode. Large batches of field values can be costly. Check protobuf message sizes. - **Module dlopen:** `librdc_rocr.so`, `librdc_rocp.so`, `librdc_rvs.so` are dlopen'd at init — startup cost is acceptable but repeated dlopen/dlclose is not. - **AMDSMI fanout:** For multi-GPU groups, field fetches fan out across all GPUs. Ensure parallelism is appropriate. ## CI Evidence (when available) If the orchestrator provides CI run data, use it to: - Compare **step timings** between PR run and baseline `develop` run - Flag steps that took significantly longer (>20% regression) - Identify **cache misses** or changed cache behavior - Correlate timing anomalies with code changes in the diff - Note any new resource-intensive steps added ## Severity | Marker | Use for | |--------|---------| | **❌ BLOCKING** | Performance regressions, resource leaks, O(n²) in hot paths, polling thread CPU waste | | **⚠️ IMPORTANT** | Suboptimal patterns that scale poorly, missing cleanup, unnecessary AMDSMI calls | | **💡 SUGGESTION** | Minor optimizations, caching opportunities, batching improvements | | **📋 FUTURE WORK** | Performance improvements in untouched code | ## Output Return findings as a markdown list: **[F-N] [Severity]: [Issue Title]** (`file:line`) - Explanation and impact - **Fix:** [fix] or **Option A/B** with recommendation
